Health communication goes beyond health itself. And health is already a complex matter on its own. As defined by the WHO in 1948, health is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. These three aspects of health–physical, mental, and social well-being–are interactive and dynamic, and their meaning has become broader and more inclusive in the past decades. It is no longer only defined by “what is not” but rather “what is” as the emphasis on positive health continues to gain traction. But how do we make positive health happen and what does it have to do with health communication?
