IFLA has responded to a consultation by the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development, highlighting the value of a focus on access to information as a driver of success in the Sustainable Development Goals.

IFLA’s response highlights the presence of access to information as a priority across the SDGs, and to the value of looking at this issue holistically.

In particular at a time of pandemic, it is particularly important to give everyone the possibility to get online, to find and use relevant content, and to have the skills to use the internet safely and confidently.

IFLA’s submission therefore suggests that a first report by the Expert Mechanism could look at the subject of access to information, and the steps that governments could take to deliver this.
