IFLA Division C Webinar Series for LIS Students: “Classic and Non-Classic Career Fields for LIS Students”

IFLA Division C Webinar Series for LIS students continues. The project aims to create a place for students to share their projects, research, and ideas about different topics related to libraries. Each webinar will address a different theme. All events are held online and are open to everyone (no registration fees).
November’s webinar will be dedicated to the Classic and Non-Classic Career Fields for LIS Students
Often, colleagues with LIS degrees do not work in what we consider to be a traditional career for librarians. Be it in the private sector or even in the public sector. This webinar will highlight what other career paths are available for individuals with an LIS degree who also put those skills to work.
We are looking for PhD Students, MS or Bachelor Students who have job experience in other fields or students who would like to present the research results in this area in their countries. We are also looking for LIS students who have not pursued a traditional library career, do not work in traditional professions and want to report on their path. Some questions might include: How did you choose this career path? What LIS skills and knowledge do you use in your work? What kinds of courses would you recommend to others interested in this type of work? What do you like best about your work?
You are encouraged to submit a proposal about the topic to provide a glimpse into non-traditional career paths that will inspire LIS students to look at other paths as well.
Proposals (in MS Word) must include:
- Name, title, institution, and email of the speaker(s);
- Brief biographical statement about each speaker (maximum 100 words);
- Title of proposed presentation;
- Abstract highlighting its relevance to the theme (maximum 400 words).
- Submit your proposals to Susanne List-Tretthahn (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Nicole Filbrandt (Filbrandt@gmx.de).
- Accepted participants will receive a certificate from IFLA Division C for presenting at the webinar. Presentations will be delivered online by the presenter, in PowerPoint format. Each presentation will last for 15 minutes, including 5 minutes for questions and answers.
- Deadline for submission is November 7, 2022.
- Three proposals will be accepted for presentation and the accepted participants will be notified by November 14, 2022.
- The webinar will be held on November 23, 2022, 16:00 – 17:30 CET.
