December 6 was the official first day of the Internet Governance Forum in Guadalajara. We participated in the session on Assessing the Role of Internet Governance in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the lightning talk on Finding the Balance: Access to Knowledge and Culture Online which was organised by IFLA.
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Guadalajara takes place on 6-9 December 2016. IFLA will be focusing on promoting the Principles on Public Access in Libraries, which includes infrastructure, policy, copyright, accessibility, privacy, skills development, open access and local content.

IFLA coordinates the Dynamic Coalition on Public Access in Libraries with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL).

This session will give an overview of IFLA's advocacy for public access to the Internet in regional and global Internet Governance Forums, and an introduction to the Global Connect Initiative, a programme launched by the U.S. State Department in September 2015 with the purpose of bringing 1.5 billion people online by 2020.
The IFLA President’s Session will focus on how libraries have been responding to the continual changes in the information environment. Four high-level speakers will present keynote thoughts on how emerging trends since the launch of the IFLA Trend Report in 2013 have continued to pose challenges and opportunities for the information sector, and how innovative actors are responding to those challenges with new services and approaches to information provision.
Internet governance stakeholders got together and deliberated on solutions for connecting the world’s next billion users to the internet - public access in libraries, schools, and other public institutions topped the list.

The Outcome Document reaffirms the commitment to the vision of the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) to build a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society.
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2015, with the theme ‘Evolution of Internet Governance: Empowering Sustainable Development,’ took place in João Pessoa, Brazil, from 10-13 November, with 2,400 onsite participants and additional remote participation. The barriers to increasing access to information as identified in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was a frequent focus of conversation.

IFLA invited a team of chief librarians, researchers and experts in the field of development, information communication and technologies (ICT) and communication and knowledge management from the Asia Pacific region to lead the panel discussion.
On 4-5 June, IFLA participated in EuroDIG 2015: Shaping the Internet Together through three panels that discussed equal access to the Internet, the role of libraries in facilitating access, and the opportunities of the EU copyright reform process.
IFLA attended the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2015, held in Geneva from 25–29 May.
