IFLA’s Literacy and Reading, Public Libraries, Metropolitan Libraries and Libraries for Children’s and Young Adults Professional Units invite proposals for their Joint Satellite Meeting to be held at the Said Business School, Oxford on the 12th and 13th August 2020 prior to the IFLA WLIC in Dublin.

Oodi Helsinki Central Library was named as the 2019 IFLA/Systematic Public Library of the Year during a ceremony at the WLIC in Athens. The Award was presented by IFLA President, Glòria Pérez-Salmerón and Systematic’s Martin Bröchner-Mortensen.
The jury has now agreed on the four shortlisted libraries for the 2019 IFLA/Systematic Public Library of the Year award. All four will now be considered for selection as the world’s best new public library.

On 29 November 2018 we will mark 24 years since the IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto was ratified in 1994. As we move towards celebrating the 25th anniversary in 2019, public libraries and public librarians everywhere are being asked to reflect on how the Manifesto relates to their library and to share this on social media. In particular we would like to have a concentrated social media campaign on Thursday 29 November 2018 which marks the beginning of the lead up to the 25th Anniversary.
The Public Libraries Standing Committee came together for two stimulating meetings in Kuala Lumpur where we discussed our current initiatives and explored the major issues currently facing the public library sector. The Public Libraries Standing Committee held a highly successful two day mid-term meeting in Den Haag during March. There was a focus on future projects and plans including the schedule for the WLIC in Kuala Lumpur.
We are excited to announce that entries are now open for the IFLA/Systematic Public Library of the Year Awards . First offered in 2014 the Award is a wonderful opportunity to showcase new public library buildings and associated programs, and consider their impact on the community.

Public libraries are uniquely placed as centres of informal learning for all ages, at the heart of their communities. They have embraced the opportunities to bring STEAM initiatives to all, from the very young through to those who are post-retirement. 'How Public Libraries Contribute to the STEM Agenda' collects together the case studies presented at STEAM into Sydney, the Public Library Standing Committee's 2017 mid-term meeting.
