The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) recently conducted two in-person workshops hosted by the Al-Hassan Library at Princess Sumaya University for Technology. The workshops were led by Mr. Walid Al-Badi, Director of the Oman Council Library and an internationally accredited IFLA trainer, alongside Dr. Saif Al-Jabri, Chair of the IFLA MENA Regional Development Committee.
Qatar National Library (QNL) is the host of IFLA's Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Division Committee. In this role, is has a mission to support the development of the field in the region. A great example of this was a recent training programme for Omani students in cutting-edge librarianship. IFLA MENA RDC offered a workshop in Damascus Syria in collaboration with The Syrian Computer Society (SCS). The workshop titled "Measuring, Evaluating, and Demonstrating the Impact of Library Services" was held on May 20-21, 2024, at SCS headquarters.
IFLA MENA RDC and IFLA MLAS partnered with the Lebanese Library Association and ESCWA to organize the sixth conference of the Lebanese Library Association, titled "Libraries and Digital Preservation of Cultural Heritage." The conference took place at ESCWA in Beirut from May 14 to 16, 2024.

The IFLA Middle East and North Africa Regional Division Committee has been following with concern the situation faced by libraries and librarians in Gaza, and supporting efforts to gather and share information relevant to both safeguarding cultural rights, and supporting the upholding of international law.
Earlier this month, IFLA’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Division Committee met over two days in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The meeting created a momentum that will carry forwards the Committee’s work to build action to support libraries across the region over the next two years.
IFLA's global reach and geographical diversity will be on show at this year's World Library and Information Congress, in particular through the sessions organised by our Regional Council and Regional Division Committees. Each Committee has worked hard to prepare exciting open sessions, complemented by open business meetings, and our new Hubs Results Session, sharing views from our WLIC 2023 Regional Hubs.
